- The "Le Mans Classic" competition will occured on july 23, 24 and 25th 2004 on Le Mans Bugatti track. Site www.lemansclassic.com . 366 cars (+ 72 reserve), divided in 6 groups will be present. They all have run at Le Mans 24 Hrs race between 1923 and 1978.

- Rules for pilots (from ACO) for preliminary session :

At least 2 of expected pilots for the race have to be present for the preliminary session day. Those who are not in ACO reference list must run 10 laps during this test day in order to be qualify for june race.


- Schedules of Preliminaries :

Administrative and technical scruteenering : friday 23th april from 10h00 to 18h00 and saturday 24th april from 9h00 to 15h00.

Preliminary session : sunday 25th april from 9h00 to 13h00 and 14h00 to 18h00.


- The ACO selection committee is make up by 7 members : Jean-Claude Plassart (ACO managing director), Jean-Pierre Allain (member of ACO management committee), Jean-Marc Desnues (ACO central manager), Daniel Poissenot (ACO sports manager and race manager), Jacques Olivier (director of sports race stewards), Gérard Gaschet (sports representative for international relationship) and Daniel Perdrix (international technical representative)

- Le Mans 1000 Kms race will secure 9 qualifying places for 2004 Le Mans 24 Hrs. 3 places in LMP900 and LMGTP, 2 in LMP675, 1 in LMGTS and 3 in LMGT.

Winners of each class of "Petit Le Mans" ALMS race supply a place for Le Mans 24Hrs. The teams ADT Champion Rcg - Audi R8 (LMP900), Prodrive - Ferrari 550 Maranello (LMGTS), Intersport Rcg - MG Lola EX257 (LMP675) and Alex Job Rcg - Porsche GT3 RS (LMGT) have won their tickets to Le Mans in case of candidature to the race.

Winners of each class of ALMS Championship have also won their tickets to Le Mans (still in case of candidature). These teams are : Infineon Team Joest - Audi R8 (LMP900), Dyson Rcg Team - Lola MG EX257 (LMP675), Corvette Rcg - Corvette CR (LMGTS) et Alex Job Rcg - Porsche GT3 RS (LMGT) (2nd ticket to Le Mans for Alex Job Rcg, will they keep it or will it be awarded to another team ?).

- Before Le Mans 24Hrs race, a new "Le Mans Legend" trophy will take place. Old 24 Hrs cars from 1959 to 1970 race with relay of 2 pilots by car.


- General Motors continue officialy in GTS category during next 3 years. In Le Mans this year, the Corvette have new colors to celebrate the 50th of the Corvette car. Their numbers : 50 for the 50th years old of the car and 53 for the year it was created.


- 2003 24Hrs presentation will occur on tuesday 3th of june at Palais des Congrès of Le Mans (free entrance).


- Don Panoz will give start of Le Mans race this year. Panoz firm let down Prototypes cars to build new GT Esperante, which begin to run in GTS category this year.


- Eurosport TV chanel will diffuse the Le Mans 24 Hrs this year. Program in english on their site www.eurosport.com .


- Johnny Dumfries (GB) has renounced to participate at Le Mans due to a lack of time to prepare him. He run during preliminary test day on n 26 DBA. He will be replaced by Stéphane Ortelli (F).


- Tom Coronel (NL) will be the third Spyker pilot for Le Mans with Norman Simon (D) and Hans J. Hugenholtz (NL).


- Crew for n 93 GT3RS Porsche, from Alex Job Rcg at Le Mans will be completed by Lucas Luhr (D), Sascha Maassen (D) and Emmanuel Collard (F).


- Werner Lupberger (SouthAfr) replace Bryan Herta (USA) to drive the Nasamax Team n 14 Reynard for Le Mans.

- PK Sport team want to run at Le Mans 24 Hrs in GT group.


- Autoexe won't be back in Le Mans in 2003, but Yojiro Terada is announced in Welter Racing team which want to run 2 WR.


- Alex Job Rcg team, after earning an automatic entrance for Le Mans with a victory at Petit Le Mans, has confirmed to be present at Le Mans for next 24 hrs race.


- After Tom Kristensen, Guy Smith and Rinaldo Capello, it's Johnny Herbert who get into Bentley team.


- Audi UK with Arena Motorsport team, and private teams Goh and Champion Rcg has announced the wish to run Le Mans 24 Hrs race with Audi R8 prototype cars.


- The Racer's Group team want to enter two 996 GT3 RS Porsche at Le Mans race.


- The Luc Alphand Aventures team would purchase two C65 Courage cars for Le Mans 24 Hrs in LMP675 group.


- Audi factory has announced that they won't be present at Le Mans but they could support private team, maybe Joest team.


- Carsport Holland team will enter a Pagani Zonda at Le Mans.


- Goddard Rcg team want to run two LMP675 Reynard at Le Mans 24 Hrs race.


- French Idée Verte Compétition team want to enter a WR prototype with LPG fuel at Le Mans.


- Spyker team with Hans Hugenholtz would like to enter a Spyker car for Le Mans.


- The entry list for 2003 Le Mans 24 Hrs race is openend between 19th january and 21st february. The ACO will published his 50 selected entrants after Sebring 12 Hrs on 15th march.


- The ALMS schedule is published : Sebring 12 hrs (15th march), Mexico City 6 hrs (5th april), Washington D.C. (29th june), Sears Point / Sonoma (27th july), Trois Rivières 3 hrs Canada (3rd august), Mosport / Canada (17th august), Road America (24th august), Laguna Seca / Monterey (7th september), Miami (27th september), Petit Le Mans (18th october).

 - Panoz plans to leave LMP class in 2004 to run in GTS class. However, the Prototype car will be present on races in 2003, for ALMS season and for Le Mans 24 Hrs. Both pilots, David Brabham and Jan magnussen have been released from their contracts with Panoz.


- The Sebring 12 Hrs will take place on 15th march 2003


 - The team who have won an automatic entrance for 2003 Le Mans 24 Hrs are : Audi Sport North America (LMP900), Intersport (LMP675), Corvette Racing (LMGTS) and Alex Job Racing (LMGT)


- The team Apollo Racing with their new LMP675 prototype, IRM 02S Zytek, wish to be present for 2003 Le Mans 24 Hrs

 - Audi Sport UK Team should come back to Le Mans in 2003 with a private R8 Audi Protoype.


 - Morgan wish to come back to Le Mans in 2003


- Nissan have shown its new 300Z, with LMGT caracteristics. This car will be intend to private teams


- General Motors has confirmed the end of its Sport Prototype programm with Northstar LMP Cadillac. So they won't be in Le Mans for next 24Hrs race.


- York City Rcg Team plan to run in 2003 Le Mans 24Hrs with a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo or maybe with a Porsche.


- The TVR factory wish to involve 2 Tuscan Rs for next 2003 Le Mans race


- Marshall Cooke Rcg (MCR) has announced that, in 2003, they plan to engage one of their two LMP675 Lola/Millington cars for Le Mans 24Hrs.


- Bentley plan to enter two races with 2 Bentley Exp Speed 8 : Sebring 12Hrs and Le Mans 24Hrs


- The JMB Rcg USA Team (which is a new team created for ALMS 2003 season, and partnered of JMB Rcg France) plan to participate to Le Mans 24Hrs, using Ferrari Modena 360GT cars.


 - Dates for Le Mans 2003 : preliminary test on 4th may 2003 and 24Hrs race on 14 and 15th june 2003. One more time, Formule1 Grand Prix are schedules the same days, Barcelone on 4th may and Montréal the 15th june.

- The David Price Rcg Team intend to engage a GT for 2003 Le Mans 24Hrs with a (or more) MG X80 GT.


- Death of belgian pilot Philip Verellen, he raced 2 times at Le Mans 24Hrs : in 1993 on a 500LM Venturi with Duez/Bachelart and finished 25th, and on a 911 GT3R Porsche of Club Renstal Excelsior with Penders/Dujardyn and finished 24th.


- Nissan is working to prepare a race version of the 350Z, made by Nismo. It will be made by Nismo and answer of LMGT characteristics.


- Marcos should have been decided to come back to Le Mans in 2003.


- Courage is working since some months on a LMP675 prototype project, maybe for Le Mans 2003


- Audi should come back officialy, the factory will decide it in october, but several cars will be sold to private teams, so we would see some Audi in 2003


- Bentley will come back to Le Mans in 2003, maybe with 3 cars to win the race.


- British official marque Ascari has decided to stop sportscars with his Ascari Judd KZR1 to concentrate on his KZ1 supercar project. The Ascari Team was very disappointed when they receved only one entry for Le Mans race. And unfortunately, during the 2002 24Hrs Le Mans race, the Ascari Judd KZR1 n 21 retired in the first hours when the car crashed after a suspension failure.

- Bob Akin (USA) died Monday, april 29th from injuries after a crash during testing on an historic car race, he piloted a Nissan GTP ZW Turbo on Road Atlanta Track. He was 66 year old and was pilot in Le Mans for 6 races. From 1978 to 1982, he drove 935 Porsche and did nor finished the race, then he came back in 1984 on 956 Porsche and finished 4th.

- Next appointment for Le Mans 24 Hrs preliminary session :

Technical and administrative scruteneering on friday 3rd may from 10h00 to 18h00 and saturday 4th may from 09h00 to 15h00

Practice on Sunday 5th may from 09h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to 18h00


- Olive Garden Rafanelli Team renounced with n 57 Maranello 550 ferrari for Le Mans 24 Hrs. This forfeit allowed to n 27 MG to be present in entry list. Next first car on reserve entry list is the Maranello Ferrari from Prodrive Team.


- Panoz Mugen from MBD Sportscars will be driven at Le Mans by Milka Duno (VZ), Didier De Radigues (B) and John Graham (CAN). The second car which was on reserve entry list, was retired.


- Pilots for n 81 GT3 RS Porsche from The Racer's Group Team will be : Kevin Buckler (USA) owner of the team, Lucas Luhr (D) and Timo Bernhard (D)


- Ukyo Katayama (J) has joined Pescarolo Sport Team to pilot a C60 Courage Peugeot with Eric Hélary (F) and Stéphane Ortelli (F). The second car will be driven by Jean-Christophe Boullion (F), Sébastien Bourdais (F) and Franck Lagorce (F)


- The contract for Michel Vaillant movie was signed with the ACO. Some works are in progress for the built of 2 new pits. The Team DAMS car concerned by the movie, are a Lola for the Vaillante, driven by Michel Neugarten (B), Saascha Maassen (D) and Philippe Gache (F); and a Panoz for the Leader, driven by Perry Mc Carthy (GB), Marc Duez (B) and Jérôme Policand (F)

- The ACO has just revealed the list of competitors accepted for the Le Mans 24 Hrs race. ACO has received 96 form (44 Prototypes and 52 GT). See the list on official site : http://www.lemans.org/course/aco2002tmp/aco2002tmp/articles/fiche_articles_313.shtml .

LMP900 : 4 Audi, 1 Riley&Scott, 2 Cadillac, 2 Dome, 3 Panoz + 1 reserve, 3 Courage, 2 Oreca Dallara, 1 Ascari.

LMGTP : 1 Bentley.

LMP675 : 1 Autoexe, 1 WR, 2 MG + 1 reserve, 2 Reynard

LMGTS : 4 Viper, 2 Ferrari Maranello + 1 reserve, 2 Corvette, 3 Saleen

LMGT : 3 Ferrari Modena, 7 Porsche GT3 + 3 reserve, 1 Morgan, 1 Spyker

In LMP900 categorie, also, the Panoz and Lola Judd of DAMS Team to act the part of the Leader and the Vaillante car for the Luc Besson movie on Michel Vaillant during the race.

The reserve cars should run during preliminary session on 5. In case of any renunciation of a titular car, the order of reserve cars given by the ACO will be applied.


- A Courage C 60 JX of Courage Compétition Team was selected for Le Mans 24 Hrs. The pilots will be Boris Derichebourg (F), Didier Cottaz (F) and maybe Thed Bjork (SW) or Nicolas Minassian (F) who have already tested the car.


- Stephane Ortelli (F) has joined Pescarolo Sport Team.


- Kristian Kolby (DK) has signed for Ascari Team for Le Mans.


- David Donohue (USA) replace Terry Borcheller on Panoz Motor Sports Team because of his size, in the Panoz cockpit, he couldn't drive confortably. The Team pilots will be David Donohue (USA), Bill Auberlen (USA), Bryan Herta (USA), Eric Van De Poele (B), Jan Magnussen (DK), David Brabham (AUS).


- The Spyker Automobielen BV Team has announced Hans Hugenholz (NL), Norman Simon, Peter Kox (NL) as pilot on their Spyker C8 Double 12R for Le Mans.


- The Dick Barbour Racing Team will be renamed as MBD Sportscar Team with Panoz cars Mugen Honda powered.


- Audi factory will be at Le Mans with 3 official cars, one with Audi Sport North American Team and two with Audi Sport Team Joest. The three new pilots of the team will be Michael Krumm (D), Marco Werner (D) and Philipp Peter (AUS).


There will be also one private Audi with japoneese Team Goh International. Pilots are Hiroki Katoh (J), Seiji Ara (J) and Yannick Dalmas (F).


- Luc Alphand (F), Olivier Thevenin (F) and Christian Lavieille (F) (also motorbike pilot) are announced on GT3 Porsche car of Luc Alphand Adventures Team.


- The Audi R8 of Audi Sport North America Team with Johnny Herbert (GB), Rinaldo Capello (I) and Christian Pescatori (I) won Sebring 12 Hrs.

- Ferrari back to Le mans with 2 Ferrari 550 Maranello of the Team Prodrive, 2 pilotes announced for the moment : Alain Menu (CH) and Rickard Rydell SW). Also, probably 1 or 2 Ferrari 360 Modena with Team JMB.


- Bentley with only one EXP Speed 8 for Le Mans. Pilots will be Andy Wallace (GB), Butch Leizinger (USA) and Eric Van De Poele (B).


- Sebring 12 hrs will occured on 16th march 2002.


- New pilots for new Cadillac Northstar LMP02 : J.J. Lehto (FIN) and Christophe Tinseau (F). For Sebring, pilots will be Bernard / Collard / Lehto and Tinseau / Taylor / Angelelli.


- Ascari with 2 KZR1 Judd for Sebring. Pilots will be : T.J. Bell (USA) / Werner Lupberger (AfSud) and Ben Collins (GB) / Christian Vann (GB)


- Johnny Kane will pilot a KnightHawk Racing MG Lola for Sebring with team' owners : Steven Knight (USA) and Mel Hawkins (USA).


- Larbre Competition Team with 2 Chrysler Viper GTS R in GT FIA championship, and probably at Le Mans. Pilots will be Christophe Bouchut (F) / David Terrien (F) and Vincent Vosse (B) / Carl Rosenblad (SW).

- In march, Bentley will have a new 100% Bentley motor. Pilots would be Wallace, Leitzinger, Van De Poele and Smith.


- The 6 Audi Pilots for Le Mans would be Kristensen, Biela, Pirro, Capello, Herbert and Pescatori.


- Lindsay International Sports Ltd should engaged one Lindsay P1 with Rob Wilson and Peter Hannen for Le Mans 24 Hrs

 - The 2002 ACO specifications are on line on the official site lemans.org. 2002 table of events : last entry form must be received on 22/02/2002, publication at the end of march of entry list (48 cars) and reserve car (6), preliminary session on the 5/05/2002, race the 15 and 16 of june.


- Audi, Bentley and Yves Courage who will be back, has confirmed their presence for Le Mans 2002 24 Hrs race.


- Mike Colucci was injured in a testing crash at Sebring International Raceway on a Porsche


- Works on Le Mans circuit just before "S" de la Forêt (or Tertre Rouge). There will be a new left/right curve just before it.


- Peugeot will be one year more in association with Pescarolo Sport Team. André De Cortanze joined this team.
